HOUSTON (AP) – A Houston man held on sex trafficking charges has now been accused of trying to intimidate witnesses and law officers.
A federal grand jury in Houston on Thursday returned a nine-count indictment against 42-year-old Andre McDaniels.
Investigators say McDaniels in January allegedly attempted to contact and threaten individuals who could testify against him.
McDaniels is 1 of 6 people indicted last year and accused of conspiracy, sex trafficking of children and forcing and coercing adults to engage in commercial sex acts. The investigation involves modeling studios and massage parlors in Houston, with ties to Kansas, Nevada, Arizona and Florida.
A witness tampering conviction carries a possible life term in prison.

… There’s no where for the kids to go for music. It’s a true all age venue that they can gather and feel safe, and parent’s feel safe dropping them off,” says the owner Tim Thurtle. After looking at several possible locations the skate park found a facility that met Clark County regulations. “We’re hoping to create a world class skating facility here,” says Thurtle. When the owner applied for a license so they could again host concerts, nearby neighbors banned together against it.
“But the added traffic that would be brought in by the concerts, there’s a limited amount of kids that go to the skate park. The concerts is a different situation,” says Lynn Hales who lives in the neighborhood behind the new skate park. The concerts were a no go said the county.
“It would have been easier for us to open a bar. It would have been easier for us to open a foot massage parlor. Those types of businesses, rather than kids. It’s just kind of…the scales aren’t really balanced, we feel,” says Thurtle.

A new hearing was set for the bill on Jan. 31, where the recommending committee will decide whether to forward it along to the full city council for a vote.
One resident spoke out at Tuesday’s meeting, telling city leaders that he and his neighbors don’t want pawnshops in their neighborhood.
“I’m strongly opposed to overturning the ban. There are already plenty of pawnshops just north of Charleston,” resident Hart Fleischhauer said. “Who is this going to benefit?”
Goodman said she wouldn’t want a pawnshop in her neighborhood but said she thinks they fit in with the other businesses along the targeted stretch of Las Vegas Boulevard, which includes tattoo parlors, massage parlors and strip clubs.

LAS VEGAS – A Las Vegas ordinance which regulates the operation of massage parlors in the city is expected to increase protection for Asian women in these establishments.

The new ordinance limits the hours of operation of massage parlors to between 6:00 am and 10:00 pm. It also prescribes health inspections as a condition of doing business in the city.

Earlier, Anthony told the Las Vegas Review Journal that he pushed for the enactment of the ordinance after being frustrated at how easy certain massage parlors can engage in prostitution and human trafficking due to the lack of strict rules.

“The massage parlor ordinances will not only increase protections for women in the massage parlors, but “legitimate” establishments will only add value to surrounding businesses, many of which are located in the Asian corridor around Spring Mountain,” Bergquist said.

“Nobody needs a massage at four in the morning, as far as I’m concerned,” said Anthony.
Councilman Anthony explained how the order will also require these businesses to have a health permit. Law enforcement will be checking for posted licenses and permits.
“Somebody who’s a slave from human trafficking is not going to have a license and it’s not going to be posted. We’ll be able to shut these places down,” he said.

LAS VEGAS – On Tuesday, November 15, Las Vegas Mayor Pro Tem and former Metro PD Vice Officer Stavros Anthony will propose an update to the Las Vegas Municipal Code to require state licenses and county health cards for new massage therapists working outcall or in neighborhood shopping centers. His ordinance will require that all new applicants who wish to perform massage in hotel rooms or shopping centers obtain, possess, carry, or display a license issued by the Nevada Board of Massage Therapists.
The ordinance, if passed, is expected to slow down the human sex slave trafficking that reportedly brings hundreds of young Asian girls to Las Vegas to perform sexual services in strip malls often within feet of our schools, fast food restaurants, child care centers, and playgrounds.
Most taxi drivers will tell you that the majority of neighborhood massage parlors are fronts for prostitution. Many parlors and outcall services offer male patrons what is called a “Happy Ending,” or in some cases a “Full Girlfriend Experience” for an extra fee. These specialties are not taught in accredited massage therapy schools.

There are numerous schemes to lure tourists into the various casinos with offers of free drinks as long as you sit at a gambling apparatus; or all-day $30 buffets, which are seemingly promoting the country’s spiralling obesity.
Despite its 8km length, I would encourage any visitor to walk the whole stretch of Las Vegas Boulevard, perhaps in sections. After that, there are efficient buses which service “the strip” around the clock.
It costs about $5 for two hours and about $7 for 24 hours. At one end of the bus route there is a big group of premium outlet shops, selling almost everything at discount prices.
While the boulevard has attracted most of the glitzy resorts there are still low-price, low-quality ageing motels on the fringes where you will find bail bond offices, quickie wedding chapels, divorce lawyers, dubious pawn shops, sleazy massage parlours and tattoo studios.

LAS VEGAS — Las Vegas Metro police on Friday released two photographs of a man wanted in connection with a sexual assault at an Asian massage parlor Dec. 12.
The attack happened at a business in the 9600 block of Spring Mountain Road.
Authorities said the rapist got into an argument with an employee after arguing the price of a massage, with the fight escalating into a violent sexual assault.
Another employee helped the victim fight off the man, who ran from the scene, police said.
The rapist is described as a white or Hispanic man, between 35 and 40 years old, 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing about 160 pounds.
