A new hearing was set for the bill on Jan. 31, where the recommending committee will decide whether to forward it along to the full city council for a vote.
One resident spoke out at Tuesday’s meeting, telling city leaders that he and his neighbors don’t want pawnshops in their neighborhood.
“I’m strongly opposed to overturning the ban. There are already plenty of pawnshops just north of Charleston,” resident Hart Fleischhauer said. “Who is this going to benefit?”
Goodman said she wouldn’t want a pawnshop in her neighborhood but said she thinks they fit in with the other businesses along the targeted stretch of Las Vegas Boulevard, which includes tattoo parlors, massage parlors and strip clubs.

LAS VEGAS – A Las Vegas ordinance which regulates the operation of massage parlors in the city is expected to increase protection for Asian women in these establishments.

The new ordinance limits the hours of operation of massage parlors to between 6:00 am and 10:00 pm. It also prescribes health inspections as a condition of doing business in the city.

Earlier, Anthony told the Las Vegas Review Journal that he pushed for the enactment of the ordinance after being frustrated at how easy certain massage parlors can engage in prostitution and human trafficking due to the lack of strict rules.

“The massage parlor ordinances will not only increase protections for women in the massage parlors, but “legitimate” establishments will only add value to surrounding businesses, many of which are located in the Asian corridor around Spring Mountain,” Bergquist said.

“Nobody needs a massage at four in the morning, as far as I’m concerned,” said Anthony.
Councilman Anthony explained how the order will also require these businesses to have a health permit. Law enforcement will be checking for posted licenses and permits.
“Somebody who’s a slave from human trafficking is not going to have a license and it’s not going to be posted. We’ll be able to shut these places down,” he said.

LAS VEGAS – On Tuesday, November 15, Las Vegas Mayor Pro Tem and former Metro PD Vice Officer Stavros Anthony will propose an update to the Las Vegas Municipal Code to require state licenses and county health cards for new massage therapists working outcall or in neighborhood shopping centers. His ordinance will require that all new applicants who wish to perform massage in hotel rooms or shopping centers obtain, possess, carry, or display a license issued by the Nevada Board of Massage Therapists.
The ordinance, if passed, is expected to slow down the human sex slave trafficking that reportedly brings hundreds of young Asian girls to Las Vegas to perform sexual services in strip malls often within feet of our schools, fast food restaurants, child care centers, and playgrounds.
Most taxi drivers will tell you that the majority of neighborhood massage parlors are fronts for prostitution. Many parlors and outcall services offer male patrons what is called a “Happy Ending,” or in some cases a “Full Girlfriend Experience” for an extra fee. These specialties are not taught in accredited massage therapy schools.

Despite its 8km length, I would encourage any visitor to walk the whole stretch of Las Vegas Boulevard, perhaps in sections. After that, there are efficient buses which service “the strip” around the clock.
It costs about $5 for two hours and about $7 for 24 hours. At one end of the bus route there is a big group of premium outlet shops, selling almost everything at discount prices.
While the boulevard has attracted most of the glitzy resorts there are still low-price, low-quality ageing motels on the fringes where you will find bail bond offices, quickie wedding chapels, divorce lawyers, dubious pawn shops, sleazy massage parlours and tattoo studios.

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) – The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is asking for the public’s help to identify a suspect in a violent sexual assault that occurred at an Asian massage parlor in the 9600 block of Spring Mountain.
Police say an argument with a female employee of the massage parlor back on December 12, 2010, over the price of a massage escalated into a sexual assault.
When a second employee came out from the back of the business, she helped the victim fight off the suspect, who fled the scene on foot.
The suspect is described as being a Caucasian or Hispanic male between 35 and 40 years old, standing about 5′9″ tall and weighing around 160 pounds. He has brown hair.

LAS VEGAS — Las Vegas Metro police on Friday released two photographs of a man wanted in connection with a sexual assault at an Asian massage parlor Dec. 12.
The attack happened at a business in the 9600 block of Spring Mountain Road.
Authorities said the rapist got into an argument with an employee after arguing the price of a massage, with the fight escalating into a violent sexual assault.
Another employee helped the victim fight off the man, who ran from the scene, police said.
The rapist is described as a white or Hispanic man, between 35 and 40 years old, 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing about 160 pounds.

Police say on the night of December 12, 2010, a man entered a massage parlor near Spring Mountain Road and Grand Canyon Drive and inquired on the price of a massage. Police say when he was told the price, he thought it was too high.
An argument between the suspect and a female employee began and eventually turned violent. Police say the suspect sexually assaulted the female.
Police say a second female employee helped the victim fight off the attacker, who fled out the front door.
The suspect is described as a white or Hispanic man, 35 to 40-years-old, 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing about 160 pounds. He has brown hair.

According to an erotic massage parlor website, 93 out of 119 massage parlors are located in Las Vegas, alone. Also, 90 of the massage parlors located in Vegas are Chinese, 5 of them are Hispanic, and 3 of them are Asian. Moreover, 87 of them offer erotic hand massage service 38 of them offer oral sex, and 35 of them explicitly offer commercial sex.
The number of massage parlors in Las Vegas outnumbers those in other major cities around the United States. 84 erotic massage parlors operates in Los Angles, 64 in San Francisco, and 50 in San Diego. Also, the number of massage parlors in Las Vegas is greater than those in Atlanta (17), Georgia and Miami(34), Florida, where commercial sexual industry is relatively greater than others. Moreover, 38% of the massage parlors in Las Vegas advertise for offering prostitution, whereas only 3.8% of the massage parlors located in New York City explicitly offers sexual intercourse.
