According to an erotic massage parlor website, 93 out of 119 massage parlors are located in Las Vegas, alone. Also, 90 of the massage parlors located in Vegas are Chinese, 5 of them are Hispanic, and 3 of them are Asian. Moreover, 87 of them offer erotic hand massage service 38 of them offer oral sex, and 35 of them explicitly offer commercial sex.
The number of massage parlors in Las Vegas outnumbers those in other major cities around the United States. 84 erotic massage parlors operates in Los Angles, 64 in San Francisco, and 50 in San Diego. Also, the number of massage parlors in Las Vegas is greater than those in Atlanta (17), Georgia and Miami(34), Florida, where commercial sexual industry is relatively greater than others. Moreover, 38% of the massage parlors in Las Vegas advertise for offering prostitution, whereas only 3.8% of the massage parlors located in New York City explicitly offers sexual intercourse.

Las Vegas Massage Parlors: Feds Rebuke Nevada Board of Massage Therapy

After hundreds of Asian “massage therapists” with certificates of completion from a California massage school were approved to work in Las Vegas neighborhood massage parlors, the National Certification Board of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork, the federal agency that oversees accreditation of all U.S. massage schools, has issued a strong rebuke to the Nevada Board of Massage Therapy.
In 2007, I interviewed Lisa Cooper who is the Executive Director of the Nevada Board of Massage Therapy while she was attending a UNLV forum on the sex industry.
Upon being asked why her agency does not police neighborhood massage parlors, Cooper nervously explained to me and Dr. Melissa Farley that the “massage therapists” employed at the dozens of neighborhood parlors do not need Nevada state certificates as long as they have a certificate of completion from a massage school in California.

Las Vegas Massage Parlors: Vegas council fines massage parlor amid prostitution allegations

LAS VEGAS (AP) A lawyer is promising a court fight after the Las Vegas City Council revoked the business license from a massage parlor, citing allegations of prostitution.
The council on Wednesday also fined Oriental Angels Massage $50,000 after finding a pattern of illegal conduct led to the prostitution arrests of five employees since 2008 at the business several blocks west of the Las Vegas Strip.
Councilwoman Lois Tarkanian called for the city to stamp out this type of activity.
Business owner and licensed acupuncturist Jinli Ran insisted she tried to run a clean business.
Attorney Conrad Claus said Ran was trying to sell the business, and said he absolutely intends to appeal the council action to Clark County District Court.

LAS VEGAS — Las Vegas city leaders revoked the business license of the Oriental Angels massage parlor Wednesday following accusations that the business was a front for prostitution.
The business, on Sahara Avenue west of Rancho Drive, has been under scrutiny since 2008.
Authorities said within the past two years, five employees have been arrested on charges of soliciting prostitution.

The City Council voted unanimously to revoke the license and levied a $50,000 fine against Oriental Angels owner Jinli Ran, due to what they said was a pattern of illegal conduct.

Kudos to the PopMatters website for hitting on a new way to understand Las Vegas: keen analysis of the Yellow Pages.
“Like Benjamin ‘Bugsy’ Siegel, the inhabitants of the town he put on the map do not trend toward self-realization,” the site’s books blogger reported in February; “it should therefore come as no surprise that ‘full service’ massage parlors outrank book stores by a staggering ratio in Las Vegas.”
By God, they’re on to something! What else can the Yellow Pages tell us about ourselves? Well, along with being horny (massage parlors and all those “entertainer” ads), we like to sit when we don’t read (more furniture listings than bookstores), prefer reading each others’ skin to books (more tattoo listings) and care far more about plumbing than reading. Presumably this will change when Las Vegans become self-realized—which might take awhile, given the scant listings for psychotherapists.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – A San Francisco police officer who produced videos parodying life on the force that were denounced as racist, sexist and homophobic is resigning.
Andrew Cohen said Tuesday he’ll leave the department in July.
The 44-year-old Cohen was the department videographer when he filmed controversial skits in 2005. One video showed an officer running over a homeless woman, one showed a male officer ogling a female motorist, and another showed officers heading into a massage parlor.
The department’s internal affairs division launched an investigation after the videos were discovered on a Web site. Then-Police Chief Heather Fong later suspended two dozen officers.
Cohen, who is out on disability, says he is tired of fighting the numerous disciplinary cases against him and wants to move on with his life.

To be sure, a long line of politicians, club operators and government regulators have taken runs at ending the practice. Some say the first attempt was made in 1965, after some restaurants were found to be paying cabdrivers $2 a head to bring in customers.
“It’s been going on forever,” said Sheriff Doug Gillespie.
County code banned the kickbacks until March 2006. That’s when commissioners voted to repeal part of the code, banning businesses with liquor licenses from tipping or extending “any form of gratuity to a taxicab driver for the delivery of any passengers to the business location.”
The parties Marquis represents argue that bounties are bad for Las Vegas. It puts customers in a pressurized situation; cab companies lose control of their drivers, who ignore female customers in favor of male customers. And now massage parlors are starting to pay cabbies for customers, too.

Bugsy Siegel’s career in Las Vegas began in 1946 when he partnered with William Wilkerson, a Hollywood based entrepreneur who suffered from a gambling addiction. Soon, Siegel realised he wanted more control over the project he’d planned with Wilkerson and after delays and a ballooning budget, The Flamingo casino was finally opened in Las Vegas. However, while many have suggested Siegel ran the casino “straight”, by offering fair odds for players, the casino ended up in the red and Siegel’s mob bosses grew tired of his promises. In June, 1947, Siegel was shot dead in his own home by a hit man. The case remains unsolved, but many quite rightly believed the mob were involved in Siegel’s death. Siegel’s short-lived reign in Las Vegas set the blueprint for other career criminals, ranging from Frank “Lefty” Rosenthal who ran the Stardust Resort and Casino and survived a car-bombing in 1982, to a new-wave of what Steve Miller calls the “Asian mob’s” involvement in “human trafficking and massage parlour brothels”.
